Andrew J. Markus

International Lawyer

Andrew J. “Josh” Markus is Board Certified as an International Lawyer in Florida. He is the author of numerous articles and publications and is a frequent speaker on international law topics. He is a shareholder in the Miami office of Carlton Fields. He serves as Chair of the firm’s International Practice Group, and head of the Public-Private Partnership Team.

Markus represents U.S. and non-U.S. companies in international and domestic corporate transactions including joint ventures, strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, public-private partnerships and multi-jurisdictional projects. He also advises these companies on general corporate and commercial matters with particular focus on electronic commerce, distribution of goods and services, direct marketing, advertising and entertainment oriented matters and general corporate operational matters in cable and satellite television, sports, and wholesale and retail consumer products.

He received his J.D. with honors from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, an LL.M. magna cum laudefrom the Vrije Universiteit in Brussels, and his B.A. from Duke University. He speaks French, Portuguese and Spanish.

Markus previously chaired The Beacon Council’s International Trade Advisory Committee during the 2015-16 fiscal year. A longtime member of the American Jewish Committee, he serves as president of the AJC’s Miami and Broward County chapter. 

He is a member of the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association (ABA). Additionally, Markus is a former Chair of both the Section of International Law of the American Bar Association and International Law Section of The Florida Bar. He is a member of the Council of the Section of International Law of the ABA and, after serving as one of its two Delegates to the House of Delegates of the ABA, was elected by the membership of the ABA as a Delegate at Large to that House.

He is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation as well as a member of the American Law Institute, the Miami International Arbitration Society and the British American Business Council. 

Markus has received many honors, such as the Lifetime Achievement Award by the ABA Section of International Law in 2010 and the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation Outstanding State Chair Award by the ABA Section of International Law in 2014. He has also been selected for inclusion several publication, including The Best Lawyers in America for Corporate Law, Mergers and Acquisitions Law, Florida Super LawyersFlorida TrendMagazine’s Legal Elite, and South Florida Legal Guide.
