Miami International Airport (MIA) is one of Miami-Dade County’s most important economic engines and a world-class facility that connects our community to the world. Airlines serving MIA fly nonstop to more than 40 destinations in the United States and Canada, 29 in the Caribbean and The Bahamas, 19 in South America, 10 in Central America and nine throughout Europe. With 31 million passengers traveling through MIA in 2005, our airport ranks as the world’s 28th busiest airport, according to preliminary estimates by Airports Council International. As an air cargo center, MIA ranked 12th worldwide and #1 in the United States in 2005, with 1.76 million metric tons of volume.
