It was “Back to the Future” for the Beacon Council on Wednesday afternoon, as the economic development organization celebrated 30 years of bringing opportunity to Miami-Dade County.

About 500 people packed the Hilton Miami Airport to honor the group’s leaders over the past three decades, as well as install a new leader, Ernie Diaz, who is the 2015-2016 chair.

“We can position Miami as a 21st-century city and a global destination,” Diaz said. “The best is yet to come.”

Since 1985, the Beacon Council takes credit for assisting more than 984 companies, creating more than 65,000 direct jobs, retaining more than 19,000 jobs and adding more than $4.59 billion in new investment capital to the community. Click here to read more about its successes from senior reporter Brian Bandell.
