Miami Innovation Working Group

Miami-Dade is a leader in startups nationally, so there’s a tremendous potential for growing jobs in our community. As the Miami-Dade Beacon Council represents local business leaders, they are focused on providing the connections necessary to help startups grow and transform into scale-ups. Startups becomes scale-ups once they’ve solved startup challenges, and there ready to grow exponentially.

Connecting startups to established businesses helps provide growth opportunities including procurement and investment and helps established businesses stay competitive with innovation and new technologies. The Council launched the Connect & Grow Initiative to build a network that bridges startups with established companies to create opportunities for job growth.

Key part of that network is the new “Miami Innovation Working Group” – more than 40 organizations in the “innovation ecosystem” – incubators, accelerators, co-working spaces and professional development organizations. The Council launched this group to encourage collaboration and unity among the groups thereby fostering an innovation ecosystem. Members of the group view it as a tremendous opportunity and responsibility as they strive to build and support the burgeoning innovation ecosystem. The group fosters collaboration between emerging creative talent, all the way to soft-landing providers, accelerators, incubators, coworking spaces, coding schools, VC groups and social ventures all coming together to move Miami forward together.

The group meets regularly with Mayor Gimenez to share ideas and best practices for making Miami an Innovation Destination – a place where companies have the resources to build and grow.

“We have an environment in government that is open to innovation and what is good for the people… one more way we have created a city of the future.” – Mayor Carlos Gimenez

The meetings provided a unique opportunity for decision-makers from multiple business support organizations to share perspectives and learn from each other–something that otherwise might not have happened. This sharing of ideas enables faster and more efficient positive change in Miami.

This is especially true as Miami looks continues to bring international companies into the U.S. market. Ensuring them that we can plug their businesses into a community that strives to see them succeed is a huge asset. The Miami Innovation Working Group combines grass roots solutions with strategic relationships and alliances giving Miami a competitive edge for companies comparing Miami to other candidate cities in the country.
