Eastern Airlines and Miami Dade College Sign Training Agreement
Ed Wegel, CEO, Eastern Airlines; and Dr. Eduardo Padron, President, Miami Dade College; sign the historic training agreement on Dec 1 at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus.
Eastern Airlines and Miami-Dade College inked a historic agreement to develop and train aviation industry talent to support the growth of Eastern Airlines in Miami.
One year ago Eastern took delivery of its first aircraft and has grown to operating three aircrafts presently and plan for ten by the end of 2016. The agreement with Miami Dade College secures a steady stream of talent in flight training, maintenance and records management for Eastern Airlines and the broader aviation industry in Miami.
This partnership is a model for the One Community One Goal (OCOG) Academic Leaders Council as Miami Dade College identified the skills needed in our local industry and responded with this training program. Interestingly, when the original Eastern Airlines was going out of business, Miami Dade College developed a program to retrain Eastern employees for professions outside of the aviation industry. Now more than 20 years later, a renewed partnership is helping train people to come back into aviation. This partnership is one of the largest skills development partnerships in South Florida in recent years.
