The Beacon Council Board Retreat Features World-Class Economic Development

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez highlighted Miami-Dade initiatives helping to make Miami a World-Class Community — the theme of the day at The Beacon Council’s yearly board retreat held July 14 at the Florida International University School of Business. Mayor Gimenez discussed the County’s recent success in growing the economy with 150,000 private sector jobs created in the last five years. He shared the good news about the significant investments made at PortMiami and Miami International Airport — two of the County’s largest economic engines,  to ensure that our community continues to see job growth and economic expansion. PortMiami welcomed its first post-Panamax “big ship” last week while the airport continues to diversify and grow with its recent designation as a Pharma Hub, only the second in the world.

Mayor Gimenez also discussed how the county is working to address sea-level rise and climate change with a multi-billion dollar investment in the water & sewer infrastructure to prepare for the effects. He also highlighted Miami-Dade’s recent designation as one of Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities- chosen from hundreds of applicants.

NW 25 Street Viaduct Opens

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six has opened the NW 25 Street Viaduct in the City of Doral.
