The Beacon Council Key Ceremony Celebrates Miami-Dade Companies for Creating Jobs & Investment 

First Prevention and Dialysis Center was one of the companies honored during the Key Ceremony.

 

 

The Beacon Council honored companies establishing or expanding operations in Miami-Dade County at the annual 2016 Key Ceremony on March 9 at the Conrad Hotel, presented by TD Bank.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez presented the companies, representing a variety of industries including aviation, information technology, trade & logistics, entertainment, manufacturing and healthcare, a Key to the County. Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, County Commissioners, City Officials and other dignitaries also participated in the ceremony.

Mayor Gimenez congratulated The Beacon Council for its success bringing such a large, diverse group of companies to Miami-Dade County, and lauded the companies for their commitment to our community. Beacon Council Chair Ernie Diaz, Regional President for TD Bank in Florida,  thanked Mayor Gimenez for his partnership and dedication to The Beacon Council’s mission of increasing jobs and investment in Miami-Dade. 

The Beacon Council President & CEO Larry K. Williams thanked the public and private partners and saluted Barry E. Johnson, President & CEO of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, who is planning to retire at the end of the year. The audience gave Johnson a standing ovation.  Vanessa Borge, CBS4 reporter, served as emcee for the program and helped officially welcome the companies to Miami-Dade.

They were honored by the World Trade Center Miami for their significant contributions to advancing international trade, investment and business in Florida.

New Leaders Taskforce Revisits its History and Mission

 

 

 

On March 8, The Beacon Council New Leaders Taskforce (NLT) was hosted by Past Chair Alan Becker of Becker & Poliakoff for its monthly meeting. The NLT was born out of Becker’s vision to provide a platform for up and coming community leaders to play a role in our community’s development at the onset of One Community One Goal nearly five years ago. Although he could not be present, a pre-recorded video was viewed by the group where he shared his thoughts on the positive impact being made by the NLT and the important role it is playing in providing new leaders an opportunity for personal and professional growth.

The group partners with the public and private sector to develop strategies that cultivate a vibrant and growing community of talented young professionals who are vested in Miami-Dade County’s future growth and in leadership roles at The Beacon Council.

The Beacon Council Creative Design Commitee Aims to Strengthen Industry

On March 10, The Beacon Council’s Creative Design Committee was welcomed by Mathieu Massa, CEO, Mr|Hospitality and Rosanna Cintron, Director of Events, Mr|Hospitality at Marion Restaurant (marionmiami.com). The Creative Design Committee is comprised of companies in the fashion, retail, luxury brands, architecture, digital media, advertising, marketing, professional services, hospitality as well as arts and cultural groups, and academic institutions. Its mission is to promote and strengthen the creative design industry of our community. Through the Creative Design Committee, The Beacon Council supports numerous Creative Design efforts throughout the year in our community. 

Members were introduced to Jonathan Bruckner, Incoming Chair of the Creative Design Committee, from Tiffany & Co.  Presentations were made  by Rita MacDonald-Korth, Founder, SourceCulture, a new fashion – creative design concept store from the U.K. and Jansen Pennock, Director, Partnerships for eMerge Americas. The Committee members stay up to date on current industry trends and share news about different sectors and niches of the Creative Design community. Pete De La Torre Business Radio Show Tapes First Show from Key Ceremony

 

Popular award winning radio personality and business talk pioneer, Pete De La Torre “The Voice of Business,” in Miami, is moving on from AM Radio to “WORLD BUSINESS RADIO Network,” a global internet station. This will be a ground breaking, global business network poised to “Make Business Happen” around the world.

Past Chairs Donna Abood, Alex Villoch, Alan Becker and Larry K. Williams, President & CEO of The Beacon Council were interviewed at the Key Ceremony held at the Conrad hotel.

Simon Fridmann, CEO of Terra’s Garden, a Key Ceremony honoree, was also interviewed about doing business in Miami.

De La Torre, along with Co-founder Sally Villalba, launches “World Business Radio Network,” aka WBRN today as a new internet all business radio station. The studio will be located at Pipeline Workspace in Doral.

Miami Lighthouse Celebrates 85th Anniversary With Launch Of Lighthouse Learning Center For Children

Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired previewed its 85th Diamond Anniversary Celebration on March 8, with a special “thank you” to the family foundations, charitable trusts and major donors who have made it possible to reach $10 million in capital funding for the launch of the non-profit organization’s innovative Lighthouse Learning Center for Children. The event was  hosted by Northern Trust.

The Lighthouse Learning Center for Children™ will be located on the grounds of the existing Miami Lighthouse complex and will include classrooms for a pre-kindergarten for three- and four-year-old visually impaired children. The pre-kindergarten will be piloted in existing instructional space in fall 2016 in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the Early Learning Coalition. Construction of the Lighthouse Learning Center for Children™ is scheduled to begin this spring, with the official opening projected for fall of 2017.
