Upon Amazon’s announcement of its intention to open a second headquarters (HQ2) in North America, cities across the region have been pitching to secure the promised investment of $5bn and recruitment of 50,000 employees from the company.

Using a customised version of fDi Benchmark’s Regional Headquarters profile with an assumption of a preference towards quality over cost, New York City was the city deemed best suited for Amazon’s HQ2, despite being significantly more expensive than the other major cities competing to attract the investment. Miami and Atlanta were ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively followed by Philadelphia, Boston and Austin.
