SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Vice President Fund Development plays a critical role in ensuring that The Miami-Dade Beacon Council, Inc. (MDBC) has the resources and finances to carry out the ambitious agenda outlined in the MDBC’s strategic plan. The Vice President/Director of Development will lead the creation and implementation of a comprehensive development program and strategy to identify, cultivate, and secure new contributors and retain and grow existing ones. MDBC’s CEO has established a goal of increasing the collective budget of the Beacon Council and Beacon Council Foundation from $5M to $10M by 2028. Core components of the current strategy hinge on increased annual gifts, philanthropic partnerships, sponsorships, and diversified public sources.

The Vice President of Fund Development is a member of the MDBC Leadership Team and is responsible for leading the development team’s operations. This role collaborates closely with the President and CEO and across the leadership team to cultivate relationships and diverse funding streams.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and execute a comprehensive fund development strategy aligned with the organization’s goals and objectives to include asset development and annual work plans.
• Lead the MDBC team and board in cultivating, soliciting and stewarding relationships with existing and potential contributors, contributors including corporations, foundations, individuals, and government agencies.
• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and close contributions ($1 million plus) through new prospects, professional advisors, and nonprofit and community groups encouraging their giving to/through The Miami-Dade Beacon Council, Inc.
• Prepare compelling grant proposals, sponsorship packages, and fundraising campaigns to attract financial support
• Collaborate with the executive team to align fund development efforts with organizational priorities and develop materials to support those efforts.
• Train and support the team to secure gifts and grants and support the leadership team and board to close gifts.
• Work closely with the marketing team on donor relations, donor engagement, and gift processing efforts and services.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising initiatives, tracking progress towards goals and making necessary adjustments.
• Represent The Miami-Dade Beacon Council at events, conferences, and networking opportunities to promote awareness and generate support.
• Regularly connect with professional advisors and their firms to ensure MDBC is top of mind for their client’s philanthropic planning.
• Lead promotion and facilitation of all complex gifts, including bequests, planned gifts, real estate, closely held business interests, and private foundation conversions.
• Ensure MDBC has a strong system for maintaining up-to-date and accurate records of contacts with contributors, prospects, and professional advisors.
• Proactively seek opportunities to deliver presentations to boards, agencies, and professional and civic organizations regarding the Foundation giving resources and serve as an external spokesperson for the Foundation.
• Engage in community outreach and maintain positive relationships with Foundation constituents and community and business leaders.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned.

GENERAL EDUCATION AND SPECIALIZED TRAINING PROGRAM:

• Fundraising professional, including enthusiasm to make asks and manage donor relationships.
• A problem-solver who is resourceful with sound judgment and strong decision-making abilities.
• Proven ability to work as a team player with diverse groups and excellence in managing and developing teams.
• Highly motivated, self-starter with strong organizational skills and ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills.
• Excellent time and task management skills.
• Availability to work outside traditional business hours, to travel locally and occasionally
regionally and nationally.

Desired Experience

• 7+ years of relevant experience leading fundraising efforts for mission-driven institutions.
• Experience leading a highly effective team toward outstanding results.
• Excellent skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, working with
databases and internet research.

• A sense of humor, creativity, and an appreciation of the role of philanthropy in building community.
• A proven record of closing major gifts and/or sales.
• High level of integrity, professional maturity, and emotional intelligence.
