After an 11-member search since November, Michael A. Finney has been named President and CEO of the Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County’s public-private economic development partnership.

He takes the reins June 1 from Sheldon Anderson, retired Northern Trust CEO for Florida and Georgia, who has been interim CEO and president after the departure of Larry Williams, who had held the job three years before returned to Atlanta.

Mr. Finney was the senior advisor for economic growth for Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, at the same time serving as chief economic development executive for Michigan.

He had in the past headed Ann Arbor SPARK, helping to attract technology organizations to that Michigan city, and run the Greater Rochester (NY) Enterprise. Both are public-private organizations with similarities to the Beacon Council.

Jaret L. Davis, co-managing shareholder of Greenberg Traurig’s Miami office and volunteer chair of the Beacon Council, led the search committee.
