This celebratory annual event recognizes local businesses, individuals and organizations for their significant contributions to job creation, business expansion, corporate citizenship, and leadership in the community. The Beacon Awards celebrates One Community One Goal (OCOG), the economic development strategic plan that is strengthening and diversifying the Miami-Dade economy. OCOG was launched by The Beacon Council Foundation to encourage investment and support job creation and competitively position Miami-Dade in the global economy.

The Beacon Awards support One Community One Goal by recognizing success in these categories considered “building blocks” of the economy:

  • Business Climate and Policy
  • Economic Development Marketing
  • Education and Workforce Development
  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation
  • Leadership
  • Physical Infrastructure
  • Target Industries

The Beacon Awards event is highlighted by the presentation of the prestigious Jay Malina Leadership Award to a local business leader who is recognized for his/her lifetime service to the community.

The OCOG target industry committees also review their accomplishments of the past year and renew their commitment for the upcoming year. Attendance is typically well over 600 people.
