Maria Alonso

President and CEO at United Way of Miami-Dade

Maria joined the United Way team in August 2017 after a 22-year career with Bank of America, most recently as senior vice president and Miami market manager responsible for the bank’s corporate social responsibility and employee engagement strategies.

A former United Way board member, Maria has a rich history of community leadership, chairing South Florida institutions such as the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and New World School of the Arts, and currently serving as co-chair of the Beacon Council’s One Community One Goal initiative. Her past and current leadership roles include serving on the boards of The Miami Foundation, Camillus House, the Miami Dade College Foundation, the March of Dimes, and Teach For America.

As a United Way volunteer, Maria spearheaded the redesign of United Way’s community investment process and then chaired the Community Impact Committee from 2013 to 2015.

Maria holds a master’s of business administration in marketing from Florida International University and a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Miami. She resides in Coral Gables with her husband Alex Montague and furry members of their family.
