It serves as a critical asset for the region’s trade and logistics sectors. Handling 80% of all air imports and 70% of exports from the Latin American and Caribbean region, MIA is a leader in importing fruits, vegetables, flowers, and seafood. With a robust airline network featuring over 90 carriers, MIA provides unmatched connectivity, offering more flights to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other U.S. airport. The airport’s expansive cargo facilities span approximately 2.8 million square feet and generate approximately $118 billion in annual economic activity and contribute to 300,000+ jobs statewide. PortMiami stands as a crucial asset for Miami-Dade’s trade and logistics industry, generating an impressive annual economic impact of $61.4 billion, which accounts for about 4% of Florida’s GDP. As the largest container port in Florida and the 12th busiest port in the U.S., it handled over 1 million TEUs for seven consecutive years, contributing to the Miami Customs District’s total trade value of $136.6 billion in 2022. PortMiami is a major driver of the regional economy, generating more than $61 billion in annual economic activity and supporting over 340,000 jobs across Florida, including more than 29,000 direct local jobs in Miami-Dade County. Continued investments in port infrastructure and expanded shipping capacity are expected to support significant growth in container cargo volumes at PortMiami over the coming decade, strengthening its role as a key gateway for trade between the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
