Military Miami-Dade is a program of The Beacon Council that serves as a liaison to the Florida Defense Alliance and Enterprise Florida. Through the Florida Defense Reinvestment Grant, Military Miami-Dade has recently focused on connecting local small businesses to military installations and assisting them in navigating the processes of doing business with the military. The Defense Industry Cluster Study, published in 2017, identified a variety of opportunities for businesses to partner with military entities and develop collaborative solutions to overarching challenges.
In establishing and supporting Military Miami-Dade, the Beacon Council acknowledges the economic impact of the military in Miami-Dade County.

In recent years, Military Miami-Dade has also focused on the need to assist returning military personnel in finding new employment and re-establishing their lives as civilians in the community. Military Miami-Dade has established the Joining Forces Miami program that encourages local businesses to hire returning military, veterans and their spouses.

Admiral Kurt. W. Tidd, USN, Commander Southcom is one of nine Unified Combatant Commands within the Department of Defense. The joint military command is responsible to support US National security objectives throughout the Western Hemisphere in cooperation with domestic and international partners, in order to foster security, ensure stability, and promote prosperity throughout Central and South America, the Caribbean and global community. U. S. Southern Command is prepared to conduct joint and combined full-spectrum military operations within their area of responsibility.
Homestead Air Reserve Base (HARB) Col. David P. Garfield HARB hosts the 482nd Fighter Wing of the Air Force Reserve whose mission is to provide combat-ready F-16 fighter jets capable of worldwide deployment on short notice. The 482nd is the host unit at HARB. There are also a number of tenant organization located at the base, using services and infrastructure of the Air Force Reserve installation. Recently the Air Force also added a small fulltime component and the Golden Knights Have wintered here for the past five years. HARB tenants also include U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Special Operations Command South, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Defense Energy Support Center Americas, U. S. Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team, Florida Air National Guard 125th Fighter Wing, Florida Army National Guard 50th Regional Support Group.
U.S. Coast Guard 7th District Rear Admiral Scott Buschman serves as Commander of the Seventh Coast Guard District headquartered in Miami, Florida. As District Commander, he is responsible for all Coast Guard operation in the Southeast United States and the Caribbean Basin including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Seventh District encompasses an area of 1.8 million square miles and shares operational borders with 34 Foreign Nations and Territories. Local Coast Guard facilities include a Base, Sector and Station in Miami Beach, an Air Station Law Enforcement Detachment Team at Opa Locka Airport, a Maritime Safety and Security Team at Homestead Air Reserve Base, and a Civil Engineering Unit in South Dade.
Miami VA Healthcare System Paul Russo, Director The Miami VA Healthcare System serves veterans in three South Florida counties: Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe, with an estimated veteran population of 175,000. The VA operates a 432-bed hospital in the Miami-Dade Civic Center, providing general medical, surgical, inpatient and outpatient mental health services. The Miami VA Healthcare system includes an AIDS/HIV center, a prosthetic treatment center, a spinal cord injury rehabilitative center, and Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center. The VA is also responsible for two major satellite outpatient clinics in Broward and Key West, five community-based outpatient clinics in Homestead, Key Largo, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood and Deerfield Beach, and an Outpatient Substance Abuse Clinic and Healthcare for Homeless Veterans Center in Miami.
Florida National Guard The Florida National Guard has nine units operating in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. One of the more significant is the Florida Air National Guard 125th Fighter Wing headquartered at HARB. As a part of NORAD these aircraft can be in the air in minutes responding to unidentified aircraft in American air space. Also headquartered at HARB is the Army Guard’s 50th regional support group.

Homestead Air Reserve Base (HARB) Col. David P. Garfield serves as the Commander of the 482nd Fighter Wing, Homestead Air Reserve Base (HARB). Its mission is to provide combat-ready F-16 fighter jets capable of worldwide deployment on short notice. While the 482nd is the host unit at HARB, there are also a number of tenant organization located at the base, using services and infrastructure of the Air Force Reserve installation. Recently, the Air Force also added a small fulltime component and the Golden Knights Have wintered there in recent years. HARB tenants also include U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Special Operations Command South, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Defense Energy Support Center Americas, U. S. Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team, Florida Air National Guard 125th Fighter Wing, and Florida Army National Guard 50th Regional Support Group.
U.S. Coast Guard 7th District Rear Admiral Peter J. Brown serves as Commander of the Seventh Coast Guard District headquartered in Miami, Florida. As District Commander, he is responsible for all Coast Guard operation in the Southeast United States and the Caribbean Basin including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Seventh District encompasses an area of 1.8 million square miles and shares operational borders with 34 Foreign Nations and Territories. Local Coast Guard facilities include a Base, Sector, and Station in Miami Beach; an Air Station Law Enforcement Detachment Team at Opa Locka Airport; a Maritime Safety and Security Team at Homestead Air Reserve Base; and a Civil Engineering Unit in South Dade.
Miami VA Healthcare System Paul Russo serves as the Director The Miami VA Healthcare System, which assists veterans in three South Florida counties: Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe, with a veteran population of over 150,000. The VA operates 372 hospital beds and provides general medical, surgical, inpatient and outpatient mental health services. The Miami VA Healthcare system includes an AIDS/HIV center, a prosthetic treatment center, a spinal cord injury rehabilitative center, and Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center. In addition to the parent facility, the Bruce W. Carter Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center in downtown Miami, the VA is also responsible for two major satellite outpatient clinics in Broward and Key West; five community-based outpatient clinics in Homestead, Key Largo, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood and Deerfield Beach; and an Outpatient Substance Abuse Clinic and Healthcare for Homeless Veterans Center in Miami.
Florida National Guard The Florida National Guard has nine units operating in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. One of the more significant units is the Florida Air National Guard 125th Fighter Wing, headquartered at HARB. As a part of NORAD, these aircraft can be in the air in minutes responding to unidentified aircraft in American air space. Also headquartered at HARB is the Army Guard’s 50th regional support group.
