Collaboration between GMCVB and MDBC ensures region’s economy remains competitive, inclusive and positioned for long-term success
MIAMI ─ (April 24, 2025) ─The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) and the Miami-Dade Beacon Council (MDBC) have formalized a strategic partnership to strengthen collaboration and further position Miami-Dade County as a premier global destination for business, investment and tourism. Revealed today on National Business Traveler Day, the partnership underscores Miami-Dade County’s role as a global gateway, linking the U.S. to Latin America, the Caribbean and markets around the world. It also highlights the region’s rising appeal among business travelers and global decision-makers.
Longtime partners and active collaborators, the GMCVB and MDBC are deeply aligned in their missions – both working to elevate the county’s economic vibrancy. The GMCVB’s role in attracting global visitors, meetings and conventions directly supports MDBC’s efforts to grow target industry sectors, create high-value jobs and foster an inclusive, sustainable economy.
“Our industries are interconnected – business expansion fuels travel demand, and a thriving tourism economy improves our business landscape,” said GMCVB President & CEO David Whitaker. “This partnership allows us to work more strategically, ensuring Greater Miami and Miami Beach remain magnets for visitors, meetings and investors.”
Teaming Up for Greater Impact
The partnership will deliver coordinated strategies, combined resources and aligned messaging to drive business growth, tourism and investment throughout Miami-Dade County. Among the key initiatives outlined in the agreement are:
- Integrated Marketing & Lead Generation: Shared investor networks and promotional campaigns will amplify Greater Miami’s competitive edge as a business and convention hub. In addition, the GMCVB will leverage MDBC contacts to generate business meeting, trade show and convention lead opportunities.
- Business & Tourism Missions: MDBC will leverage the resources of GMCVB’s international offices to expand its global stakeholder outreach, while GMCVB gains greater access to MBDC business contacts in key markets.
- Business & Tourism Synergies: Joint networking events, business attraction strategies and co-branded familiarization trips will drive engagement with corporate decision makers.
- Expansion of the “Brought to You by Tourism” Campaign: MDBC will help identify business leaders whose relocation was influenced by Greater Miami’s vibrant tourism and lifestyle appeal, highlighting their journeys on the GMCVB’s BroughttoYoubyTourism.com platform and social media channels.
As Miami-Dade County’s official economic development organization, MDBC focuses on growing the local economy by attracting jobs and investments, championing Greater Miami’s business brand and shaping the community’s economic future. These efforts overlap most seamlessly with the GMCVB’s focus on growing the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) sector. “Experiencing the destination through a different lens goes far in helping to expose business leaders to our thriving innovation ecosystem, world-class talent and other advantages as a global hub,” notes Whitaker.
“As someone with deep ties to the travel industry, I know firsthand how essential mobility, connectivity, and business travel are to a thriving economy,” said J.C. Liscano, chair of the Miami-Dade Beacon Council and vice president of MIA hub operations at American Airlines. “On National Business Traveler Day, it is especially meaningful to highlight the progress Greater Miami has made as a destination for global business and innovation, as well as the world-class experience that continues to attract both visitors and business travelers.”
Over the past year alone, 45 companies chose to expand or relocate their headquarters to Greater Miami in collaboration with The Beacon Council, decisions that are expected to inject more than $2.5 billion into the region’s economy each year. These projects represent a commitment to more than 10,000 new jobs and more than $800 million in capital investment. Beyond fueling economic growth, this wave of activity is projected to generate $16.6 million.
“Miami’s momentum speaks for itself,” said Miami-Dade Beacon Council President & CEO Rodrick T. Miller. “Business tourism is a powerful driver of economic growth, and our collaboration with the GMCVB strengthens our shared vision to position Miami-Dade as a premier global destination for commerce and innovation. By aligning our efforts, we are amplifying Miami’s story and accelerating its ascent as a world-class business hub.”
