As members of the Academic Leaders Council (ALC) of The Beacon Council, which represents the seven major educational institutions in Miami-Dade County, extend our sincere congratulations to Dr. Julio Frenk on his Jan. 29 inauguration as the sixth president of the University of Miami.

With an exemplary record as an agent of change and a leading authority on global public health — evidenced by his work as dean of Harvard’s School of Public Health, Mexico’s minister of health, positions with the World Health Organization and others — we are certain Dr. Frenk will leave an indelible mark not only on UM but on the broader educational community of Miami-Dade.

Dr. Frenk is a true visionary, and the ALC members look forward to his leadership and collaboration as we work to create a globally competitive educational ecosystem for our students and for the future of our community.

    Once again, congratulations, Dr. Frenk!
