With 1,892 beds, Jackson Memorial Hospital is the centerpiece of the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in the Miami area. It is a major teaching hospital for the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. Jackson also is home to the Ryder Trauma Center, the region’s only Level I Trauma Center. Mount Sinai Medical Center is an independent, non-profit teaching hospital. The hospital has 608 beds at its main campus in Miami Beach and operates a free-standing emergency room in Aventura as well as satellite outpatient centers in other cities. The hospital had 22,126 admissions, performed 5,661 annual inpatient and 6,177 outpatient surgeries, and its emergency room had 63,205 visits in the latest year for which data are available. U.S. News & World Report ranked Mount Sinai as the fourth-best hospital in the Miami area and 11th-best in the state of Florida.
