With 1,892 beds, Jackson Memorial Hospital is the centerpiece of the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in the Miami area. It is a major teaching hospital for the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. Jackson also is home to the Ryder Trauma Center, the region’s only Level I Trauma Center. The hospital’s burn-treatment center is one of only three in Florida verified by the American Burn Association. Jackson shares the same address as its affiliate Holtz Children’s Hospital.

A seven time winner of the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals® National Benchmark award, Kendall Regional Medical Center is a 412-bed, full-service hospital in southwest Miami-Dade County. The hospital recently received a Level II Trauma Center designation by the Florida Department of Health.

This 473-bed acute care facility has more than 700 affiliated physicians representing 27 specialties. Mercy opened in 1950 with hospital staff provided by the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine, Florida. Mercy has “centers of excellence,” or medical specialties, that the Cyberknife Institute, the Heart Center, the Maternity and Women’s Health Center, the Miami Cancer Center, the Minimally Invasive Surgical Institute, the Orthopedic Institute, and the Surgical Weight Loss Center. Mount Sinai Medical Center is an independent, non-profit teaching hospital. The hospital has 608 beds at its main campus in Miami Beach and operates a free-standing emergency room in Aventura as well as satellite outpatient centers in other cities. The hospital had 22,126 admissions, performed 5,661 annual inpatient and 6,177 outpatient surgeries, and its emergency room had 63,205 visits in the latest year for which data are available. U.S. News & World Report ranked Mount Sinai as the fourth-best hospital in the Miami area and 11th-best in the state of Florida.

South Florida’s only licensed, free-standing hospital exclusively for children has 272 beds and affiliations with more than 650 attending physicians. The hospital had 11,550 admissions, performed 3,181 annual inpatient and 7,424 outpatient surgeries, and its emergency room had 91,901 visits in the most recent year reported. According to a survey of the best children’s hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, Nicklaus Children’s has eight nationally ranked pediatric care programs.

Located in Hialeah, Palmetto General Hospital is a 360-bed acute care hospital with more than  2,000 employees and medical staff. The hospital offers a broad range of services, including adult and pediatric emergency rooms, a cardiac program that includes both medical and surgical services, a bariatric program that has been designated a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery and a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence as designated by the American College of Radiology.
