Miami-Dade County’s October unemployment rate decreased to 4.5%, a full 1% lower than the previous year due in large part to the County’s 27,900 new nonagricultural payroll jobs from October 2016 to October 2017. This is the third largest increase of new jobs among counties in Florida. Additionally, the County saw wages increase from $50,596 in the first quarter of 2016 to $54,732 one year later.

The Miami-Dade Beacon Council, the official public-private economic development partnership, is pleased to announce this year’s achievements during the 2017-2018 Annual Meeting & Key Ceremony. This year’s event, is a celebration of Miami-Dade’s economic development initiatives and results, which focus on job creation and capital investment.

Miami- Dade County continues to maintain low unemployment rates, experiencing a 0.3 percentage point decrease from August 2017. Even with “weathering” Hurricane Irma, Miami-Dade County’s 4.6 unemployment rate is the lowest since the 2008 recession, highlighting the county’s resiliency.

Founder and Managing Director Kisha Mays opened Just Fearless to change the lives of women and their families by providing a resource to expand their business.  By using their global marketing knowledge and resources, Mays and her team have developed a system that will show women how to expand their businesses into other countries.

In the next three years, Woosh Smart, the Israeli company will create 11 new local jobs and spend $8 million in new capital investment as the number of stations in Miami begin to grow.
